Mobile Friendly Website – Do I Have One?

Awesome Co. Web Design

You are not sure if you have a mobile friendly website and so you want to find out? Good of you to ask. To tell whether you have a mobile friendly website you can do one of three things:

  1. Visit your website on your mobile phone. Does it look good?
  2. Visit your website using your browser and resize the browser window to make it smaller.
  3. Use the Google Mobile Friendly Test Tool

Out of the three ways to check if you have a mobile friendly website, we recommend Option #3. The reason why is because you ultimately want to make sure that Google sees your mobile friendly website. Not sure why? Read our post on why having a mobile friendly website is no longer optional.

The other two ways to check if you have a mobile friendly website are decent alternatives if you can’t get to the Google Mobile Friendly Test Tool, but they are not ideal. Some mobile phones scale down the website to the screen making it look like a miniature version of the actual site. In this scenario the website looks OK, but it may not actually be viewed as mobile friendly by Google. When you resize the browser window, some websites do not scale the same way as they do on mobile phones, if you don’t have the right code attributes in place. But, lacking access to the Google Mobile Friendly Test Tool, you’ll get a pretty good idea whether you have a mobile friendly website with the other two options.
